It’s unbelievable that a vegetable costs so much that nobody can even imagine. This vegetable’s name is Hop-Shoots, which costs around 1,000 pounds per kilogram.

Why Hop-Shoots is Expensive?

It is costly because its cultivation and harvesting equipment are very costly. It takes three years for it to come to fruition. The tiny green tips of the hop plant have to be harvested individually and by hand, which involves a lot of hard work. Every part of the Hop-Shoots plant is helpful.

Uses of Hop Shoots

  • The fruit and stem of hop-shoots are used in beer making. Its flower is called hop-cones, which is used as stability agents in beer.
  • The medicine prepared from the stem of hop-shoots is said to have a high curative effect in the treatment of Tuberculosis(TB).
  • Hop Cones contain different oils, such as lupulin, a yellowish, waxy substance, an oleoresin, that imparts flavor and aroma to beer.
  • Lupulin contains lupulone and humulone, which possess antibiotic properties, suppressing bacterial growth favoring brewer’s yeast to grow.
  • It is used in medicines for improving the digestive system.
  • It is used as a relaxant in depression, anxiety.
  • It is used as an analgesic.
  • It is used in curing insomnia.
