How to avoid mental stress in children during the coronavirus pandemic?

Children of this era are getting obese due to their sedentary lifestyles, affecting their physical and mental health. It is a serious matter for the parents. In my gated community, most of the children are fatty. I thought of writing a blog for them, which will benefit them in maintaining their health.

    Pandemic is also responsible for the obesity in children because they are not allowed to go outside, do physical activity, which is also accountable for fattier children.

    The changes in activity levels can risk your child’s health and negatively impact their sleep and mental health. Your child must stay active during their free time. Physical activity is an integral part of growth and has many health-related benefits.

    According to other studies, exercise and a balanced diet in childhood lead to adults with better brains and lower anxiety levels according to different breakdowns.

    How to avoid mental stress in children during the coronavirus pandemic?

    Motivating for workout to reduce stress in children

    Children are like a clay pots, and you can easily shape them in a better form. Parents are like potters who can form good habits in children suitable for their future.

    You can motivate your child to help you with daily chores. In this way, they will learn to be independent and active.

    How can kids play sports safely during the COVID-19 pandemic?

    Try to accompany your child in playing sports or other activities to make them busy.

    Being outside with your immediate household would be the safest scenario. But meeting up with others in outside environments can be made safer by limiting the number of people, gathering only with those who are fully vaccinated, practicing social distancing, wearing masks, and checking the community transmission rates in your area before collecting.

    Parks and Recreation Areas

    Visiting parks, nature preserves, and other outside recreation areas is a beautiful way for your child to get out of the house, exercise, and connect with nature. Visit parks and recreation areas close to home to minimize travel, exposing you to the virus.

    Making a day at the park or recreation area safer means keeping a few basic things in mind:

    • Activities that involve your immediate family are safest.
    • Choosing locations with the fewest people possible is also intelligent.
    • If you are going to interact with others, make sure you maintain social distance and wear a mask.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.


    If you do choose to take your child to the playground, you might consider doing so when fewer kids are there (early or later in the day). Make sure to carry hand sanitizer with you so that you can keep your child’s hands clean.

    Trying to keep our kids happy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic has not been without stress. It can be so upsetting to see our children suffer from loneliness and isolation as parents. Thankfully, allowing our kids to play outside is one of the safest activities during the pandemic. That’s a good thing because most children thrive in outdoor spaces.

    How to Address Your Child’s Fears

    According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), children often look to their parents for physical and emotional safety. When kids are experiencing a great deal of stress, parents need to focus on reassuring their kids that they are there for them and will get through these challenges together.

    Acknowledge your child’s feelings:

    It’s normal for your child or teen to be upset about the changes they have experienced or that they are still limited in what they are allowed to do. Make sure you validate their feelings first, then explain why there are still some restrictions on activities.

    Be honest:

    If your child has questions about the pandemic or when things will get back to normal, answer those questions and honestly. Acknowledge that while people are still getting sick, scientists have developed vaccines to help protect people from the disease. Likewise, if your child hears something on the news or from friends upsetting, be sure to address those concerns openly and honestly.

    Offer extra hugs:

    When kids are stressed or upset, it helps them know that they are loved unconditionally. So make sure you offer lots of hugs and remind them that you are there for them. Remember, it can be stressful to be limited in what they can and cannot do. Even though what they are going through is stressful, it can be calming and reassuring to know that their parents love them a lot.
